Western Australian Centenary Medal

This is a prize medal that was presented to Roger Clark by the Department of Agriculture for his bumper wheat crop. In April 1928, to mark the state’s centenary, the Western Australia Department of Agriculture launched a campaign to stimulate agricultural production. At the launch, held at Yandanooka, north-west of Carnamah, George Sutton, Director of Agriculture, announced plans to issue prizes to farmers who grew high-yielding crops. Roger Clark was one such recipient. The Western Australian Centenary medals were struck at the Perth Branch of the Royal Mint. One side of the medal shows the crowned bust of the then reigning monarch, King George V. The reverse side shows the black swan, the states motto ‘cydnis insignis’ (renowned for its Swans), along with the words ‘CENTENARY OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA 1929. AWARD MEDA FOR INCREASING PRIMARY PRODUCTION’.
